Reporting jointly to the Dean of Student Life and the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Head of Experiential Education cultivates transformative learning experiences that connect classroom learning with the world. This position oversees, develops, evaluates, and promotes a comprehensive program across the Morven (Grades 8-12) campus which encompasses Experiential Learning, Global Education, Outdoor Education and Leadership, and other related initiatives. The Head of Experiential Learning collaborates closely with faculty to integrate these experiences into the core academic program, fostering a school culture that is student centered and values innovation and authentic engagement. This is a Full Time Permanent position, starting August 22, 2025.

Responsibilities:

●       Develop a broad, enriching and sustainable programme of opportunities in experiential education, global education, and outdoor education for students in Grades 8 to 12.

●       In collaboration with the Director of Teaching & Learning and Department heads, develop, monitor and report on the implementation of immersive experiential learning experiences for students which are connected to curriculum.

●       Develop a vision for and provide oversight of the EXL programming for G8 and G9 students in the A/B trimester and H trimesters.

●       Act as growth coach/instructional coach for Experiential Learning programs including PHE and EXL

●       Coordinate Middle and Senior School Global Education Learning Experiences.

●       Support student leadership in global citizenship, outdoor education and social impact labs.

●       Work collaboratively with colleagues at the Wentworth (PreK-7) campus to ensure alignment and scaffolding of skills and experiences across both campuses.

●       Establish strong and sustainable relationships with external partners who share Collingwood’s values and ethos and who can facilitate high quality learning opportunities.

●       Work with various Heads of Department to ensure meaningful curriculum links are developed between experiential learning opportunities and taught curriculum objectives.

●       Develop marketing, publicity and celebratory resources and activities to champion experiential learning and EXL programming at Collingwood.

●       Work with campus leadership to coordinate pre-excursion planning and learning for students and teachers.

●       Provide ongoing staff training, as required, to support teachers’ growth and understanding of experiential learning themes, skills and responsibilities.

●       Work with the campus Principal to determine staffing needs for all trips and excursions.

●       Develop a process for identifying and selecting chaperones for all trips and excursions.

●       Work with the Manager of Educational Risk to ensure adherence to risk and safety protocols for all experiential learning opportunities.

●       Evaluate the impact, effectiveness and value (and quality assurance) of each experiential learning programme and initiate change as required.

●       Maintain an experiential learning events calendar and ensure that it is integrated into the school calendar.

●       Responsible for teaching 2 courses (or equivalent).

Required qualifications:

●       Bachelor of Education Degree.

●       3 or more years of experience in a related role.

●       Knowledge of current global contexts (current and past challenges facing particular societies, cultures, and the natural world).

●       Previous experience in support of outdoor education programming.

●       Experience in teaching and facilitating using the experiential learning model, in both classroom and outdoor settings.

●       Experience and/or willingness to learn about educational Risk management practices.

●       Appreciation for global self-awareness, global systems, and cultural diversity.

●       Experience developing, implementing, managing, and overseeing short-term learning abroad programs.

●       Strong background in real-life problem-solving and place-based methodologies and how to assess and build these skills into school programming.

●       Ability to facilitate independent and cooperative group learning experiences on campus and abroad.

●       Dedication to personal and social responsibility within an ethical framework.

●       Understanding of cross- and multi-disciplinary approaches.

●       Commitment to work cooperatively with administrators, faculty, students, families, and global partners in order to maintain a strong program.

●        Strong IT skills with attention to detail for administrative tasks.

●        Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada.

Preferred qualifications and experiences:

●       The ideal candidate is committed to equipping students to be global citizens and leaders who engage with the world rather than seek sanctuary from it.

●       Proven experience in developing student learning experiences which support the creation of a dynamic, hands-on learning environment which encourages students to engage deeply with concepts through real-world application, reflection, and active problem-solving. Immersive experiences are designed to develop critical thinking skills, adaptability, and a deeper understanding of subject matter.

●       This educator is a collaborator who promotes meaningful opportunities to explore complex global issues, a person who challenges students and faculty to see the world from others’ perspectives through relevant curriculum and curricular opportunities that bring the world into the classroom.

●       With robust interpersonal skills, the selected candidate has a real desire to contribute to the school community by sharing their passions for the world community and through additional efforts such as advising students, coaching teams, directing clubs, or supervising activities.

●       The selected candidate will advance the School’s strategic vision for experiential learning by creating systems and structures that integrate experiential learning across the school; sharpening our conceptions of global learning and global competence; supporting faculty in designing curricula and assessments that connect academic disciplines and classroom learning to real-world contexts; performing scouting trips and site visits; forging new and additional local, regional, and global partnerships; articulating the interconnected nature of ethical responsibility, global-mindedness, inclusivity, and civic engagement; and providing professional development to faculty and staff.

The current faculty grid salary range for this position is $73,845 to $109,969 per annum based on years of experience and a Bachelor of Education. Faculty with a Masters will be paid on a higher salary range. This position will also receive a $10,000 responsibility allowance.
