We are looking for an experienced Director of Admissions & Financial Assistance to join our Admissions Department. Reporting to the Executive Director of Admissions & Advancement, The Director of Admissions & Financial Assistance (FA) plays an important leadership role at Collingwood School. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director is responsible for the leadership and implementation of all admissions, enrolment management and financial assistance strategies and initiatives aligned with the School’s goals.  This role leads the Admissions Team based at each campus. 

This is a Full Time Permanent role with an ideal start date of May 1, 2025 or another mutually agreed upon date.

Responsibilities:


Enrolment 

●        Develops an annual strategic enrolment management plan with the Executive Director of Admissions & Advancement to identify goals and objectives that guide admissions, enrolment and financial assistance   

●        Implements the annual strategic enrolment management plan

●        Provides leadership in enrolment management – specifically admissions, recruitment, FA and marketing, and directs the process of attracting, enrolling, and retaining students

●        Hires, Leads, and mentors three staff across two campuses (Associate Director of Admissions, Admissions Officer and Admissions Coordinator)

●        Creates, manages, and reviews the annual Admissions budget under the direction of the Executive Director of Admissions & Advancement

●        Develops, implements and measures effective Admissions policies, procedures and standards

●        Maintains comprehensive records and collects ongoing data for statistical purposes

●        Leads annual re-registration of returning students including the required mandatory enrolment forms

●        Attracts, vets and enrols new students annually

●        Facilitates assessment sessions on both campuses including: JK and Kindergarten Readiness Assessments; and numerous small-group and individual in-house assessments throughout the year

●        Oversees in-person and/or online (ZOOM, SKYPE, Facetime, etc.) interviews with applicants and their parents

●        Chairs the various individual Admissions Review Groups; Head of School, Junior School Principal, Senior School Principal, Heads of House, and other colleagues as required

●        Reviews, evaluates, and makes decisions on JK-Grade 12 applications with supporting Admissions team and in conjunction with Campus Principal and specific departments when required

●        Advises and counsels current and prospective families regarding independent school admissions and enrolment matters including “right fit”

●        In collaboration with the Executive Director of Admissions & Advancement, cultivates relationships with current parents and parents of prospective applicants

●        Oversees collection of all required application documents and BC Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC) enrolment documents 

●        Hosts events on both campuses

●        Partners with the School’s Marketing & Communications Department to create an annual Ad Campaign aimed at promotion of the School through local and national print advertising campaigns, Facebook & Google presence, public signage, print collateral and other means.

●        Oversees community outreach activities

●        Works collaboratively and frequently with members of various departments including Finance, Advancement, Marketing & Communications, Computer Services, Special Events

●        Keeps the Executive Director of Admissions & Advancement apprised of the status of admissions, enrolment and FA. 

●        Attends selective Board meetings and participates in strategic planning 

●        As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, play a key role in advancing and supporting the mission of Collingwood

●        Ensures Admissions Office staff are informed about research and trends in admissions to ensure that potential changes and challenges are anticipated

●        Oversees the Collingwood School ambassador programs

●        Any other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Admissions & Advancement 


Financial Assistance

●        Responsible for administering the School’s Financial Assistance Program with support of the Executive Director of Admissions & Advancement

●        Chairs the Financial Assistance Committee whose membership includes the Head of School, the Chief Financial & Operations Officer and the Executive Director of Admissions & Advancement

●        Maintains working relationship with Apple Financial Services

●        Connects with all Grade 6-12 inquiring and applicant families interested in the School’s Financial Assistance program and the process

●        Advises current and applicant families about FA

●        Maintains FA Policies & Procedures and updates them as required

●        Counsels current families on non-tuition Trips & Tours FA, and provides formal decision

●        Counsels current families on Rainy Day Fund FA, and provides formal decision

●        Administers the Scholarship Program for both new and returning students

●        Responsible for marketing and communication of the FA program


Required qualifications

●        An undergraduate degree in a related field  

●        8+ years of management of admissions, enrolment and/or financial assistance in a school setting

●        Demonstrated experience with project management and oversight of policies and procedures 

●        Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills 

●        Proven leadership skills with a flexible and collaborative approach to working within a team  

●        Effective organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and ability to meet deadlines

●        Patience and a problem-solving approach to issues 

●        A strong goal and results orientation

●        A high level of integrity and professionalism

●        An ability to understand and report on goals and metrics

●        Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada

●        A working knowledge of independent schools (an asset)

The hiring range for this position is from $126,000 to $165,000. Candidates with strong skills and experience may be considered for a higher starting salary.
