St. Michaels University School’s External Programs Department offers an array of educational enrichment programs for all students. During holiday periods (winter, spring, summer breaks), the programs provide a learning experience for students aged 5-16 that emphasize skill development, cooperation, participation, and fun.
The Position:
Reporting to the Discovery Camp Coordinator and After School Care & Camps Coordinator, the Senior Camp Leader will play a vital role in providing an enriching experience for campers. The Senior Camp Leader is responsible for creating a safe, positive and engaging camp environment through developmentally appropriate programming. This role includes planning and executing activities as well as providing guidance to other Camp Leaders to communicate with campers effectively. Senior Camp Leaders will also maintain open communication with parents, informing them about camp updates and providing feedback on their child’s behaviour when necessary.
- Discovery Camp: Work with kids aged 5-7 to run games, activities, arts and crafts based at the Jr. School Campus. Each week, take campers to local parks and exciting off-campus trips.
- Adventure Camp: Focused on taking a small group of kids ages 8-11 out on adventures 3-4 times a week to local parks, beaches, and hikes, trying to spend minimal time indoors.
Hours of Work:
March 12, 2025: required two-hour orientation session.
March 17-21 and 24-28, 2025: 8:30am to 4:30pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure a safe, fun, and engaging environment for all campers.
- Preparation and execution of daily planned engaging, meaningful and age-appropriate activities. All within an assigned budget – Including arts and crafts, sports and cooperative games.
- Communicate with team members about the daily activity plan.
- Being the primary point of contact with parents and caregivers to provide daily feedback and answer questions.
- Provide learning and guidance to campers on appropriate behaviour during play and activities.
- Plan activities that work collaboratively with other Camp Leaders and SMUS Camp Assistants.
- Build relationships with campers by showing compassion, empathy and understanding.
- Provide exemplary customer service and clear communication with parents and caregivers.
The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest:
- Experience leading and activity planning programs for school-aged children
- Previous experience working with SMUS Camps is considered an asset
- Experience supervising or team leading is considered an asset
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, campers, and other leaders.
- Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment and work as a positive and collaborative team member.
- Valid First Aid certificate.
- Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age.
- Class 4 unrestricted license, or the ability and willingness to obtain one, is considered an asset
Pay Range:
Hourly pay range: $23.34 – $27.46
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
