St. Michaels University School (SMUS) is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 co-educational day and boarding school with a global reputation for academic excellence. 

SMUS Camps delivers customized school group programs that expose international students to Canadian cultural and Vancouver Island while also improving their English language communication skills.

 

The Position: 

The ELL Instructor is responsible for planning and delivering lessons and activities for an English Communication and Leadership Camp.  We are seeking qualified ESL instructors who have classroom experience with students from different cultures and excellent communication and classroom management skills. The ideal candidate should be able to create an environment that is respectful, fun, and conducive to learning.  

 

Dates of Work:

Group 1 (Junten) July 25 to August 8, 2025.  (Orientation date: July 15, 2025)
Group 2 (Nagoya) Aug 7 to August 15, 2025. (Orientation date: July 29, 2025)
Hours of work: 8:30 – 4:00 pm

 

Responsibilities include:

Create lesson plans based on themes and objectives of the program. 
Deliver lessons based on ELL teaching methodologies.
Attend the celebration of learning.
Encourage and engage students to speak in English.
Maintain excellent classroom management and create a pleasant learning environment.
Assess students’ progress and provide formative feedback and guidance for improvement.
Communicate with the Program Coordinator regarding any student issues or concerns.

 

The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest:

A Bachelor’s degree
TEFL Certification preferred
BC Teachers Certificate required for academic program
At least two years of experience working with youth, aged 12-17 from different cultural backgrounds
Understand the particular developmental and emotional needs of adolescents
Ability to work cooperatively and develop positive working relationships with international students and colleagues
Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to request and convey information in an appropriate manner
Proficient in all Microsoft applications

 

Pay Range: 

Hourly pay range: $28.25 – $33.23

 

Criminal Record Check:

Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
