St. Michaels University School’s External Programs Department offers an array of educational enrichment programs for all students. During holiday periods (winter, spring, summer breaks), the programs provide a learning experience for students aged 5-16 that emphasize skill development, cooperation, participation, and fun.  

 

The Position: 

Every summer, SMUS delivers exceptional overnight camps designed for youth aged 13-16. Our camps include programs in leadership, engineering, game development, ethical hacking, music and sports.  

Reporting to the Director of External Programs, the role of the Activity Coordinator is to provide safe and enjoyable on- and off-campus activities for students during the summer. Activities are a key part of the student experience, introducing them to the natural, cultural, and historical environment of Victoria and Vancouver Island. The Coordinator will plan, organize, schedule and deliver weekend and evening activities.  

Dates of Work: 

June 2 – Aug 1, 2025: 35 hours per week 

Responsibilities include: 

Plan and lead on- and off-campus activities in the evening and on weekends.  
Ensure all transportation is booked for activities with the Transportation Manager.  
Correspond with guides and service providers to confirm arrival and departure times and participant numbers. 
Communicate the details of each activity to the administrative staff, teachers and students.  
Supervise Student Ambassadors while on activities.  
Maintain and store sports equipment. 
Plan meals for off campus trips if needed – bagged lunch, restaurant, or from the supermarket. 
Coordinate waivers that are required with the Program Coordinator. 
Plan and participate in the trip to Vancouver and Whistler.  
Communicate with staff regarding safety and risk management before each activity. 
Work alongside other management staff in ensuring the success of all parts of daily life on camp. 
Monitor student behavior during activities and inform boarding staff if there are any concerns. 
Record accidents and incidents in google form and follow up with the Director of External Programs. 
Take photos of student activities and share with the Communications Assistant.  
Attends weekly meetings with the Director and administrative team. 
The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest: 

Completed or enrolled in relevant post-secondary education such as Business, Recreation, or Education. 
At least one year experience with activity or event planning.  
Ability to work independently, set priorities and schedule and meet deadlines. 
Ability to work cooperatively and develop positive working relationships with international students. 
Experience working with youth in a mentoring or supervisory role. 
Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to request and convey information in an appropriate manner. 
First Aid Certification 
Pay Range: 

Hourly pay range: $25.68 – $30.21 

Criminal Record Check: 

Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
