St. Margaret’s School (SMS) is Western Canada’s only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 7–12).  St. Margaret’s School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Programme, and we are a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).

Reporting to the Vice Principal, MYP & DP, this role involves teaching instrumental music within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) as well as grades 11 and 12 band programmes. The ideal candidate is passionate about music education, embraces inquiry-based learning, and is committed to nurturing the creative and personal development of students. The Performing Arts teacher is excited to lead a significant program of the school by exuding and inspiring a love of music across the entire community. This includes building and implementing an ambitious vision of music as reflected by robust participation in all areas of the program. Within the classroom, the Performing Arts Teacher fosters a dynamic environment that encourages collaboration, risk-taking, and a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts. The position requires strong pedagogical skills, experience with a variety of music ensembles, and a deep understanding of the IB philosophy and learner-centered teaching.

Our school’s motto “service with love” embraces both individual pursuits and shared responsibilities. At SMS, teachers are required to participate in the extra-curricular life of the school, thereby educating the whole person and supporting students to develop the full range of their skills, talents, and interests.
