Our Intermediate Homeroom Teacher is a valued member of our Junior School community who, with the support of the school leadership and teaching teams, provides future-focused, engaging program delivery and a warm, supportive learning environment to their classroom of learners. The Junior School Intermediate Homeroom Teacher is the key point of contact for all students and parents, and acts as mentor, role model, and coach for each student.

In your first year at WPGA, you’ll be directly involved in:

Teaching 

  • Preparing and delivering engaging, future-focused lesson plans and interactive learning activities/materials that follow BC curriculum guidelines for Grade 5.
  • Collaborating with grade-level colleagues and specialist teachers to provide optimum learning experiences in all areas of instructional programming.
  • Creating a safe and inclusive classroom with routines that increase and enhance engagement.
  • Meaningfully integrate digital skills and technology into curriculum and assessment to enhance student learning (laptop and other technology resources provided).
  • Differentiating learning to address all needs in the class.
  • Utilizing a variety of assessment methods to perpetuate growth and demonstrate learning, including student reflection, student-led conferences, learning updates, and summaries.
  • Supporting students and families with open, ongoing communication.
  • Integrating curriculum and helping students make positive connections.
  • Creating a positive learning environment that helps each child achieve their personal best.
  • Giving students opportunities to try new things and grow in developing their confidence.

Co-Curricular Involvement

  • Modelling and promoting our core values and high standards of behaviour in and out of the classroom.
  • Participating in school life and co-curricular activities by coaching a sport and sponsoring a club.

Growing as a Professional

Founded in 1996, West Point Grey Academy is an independent co-educational day school in Vancouver, British Columbia. Set on 18 acres with sweeping views of English Bay and the North Shore mountains, we offer future-focused programs to 940 students in junior kindergarten to grade 12. Our Process

Candidates are asked to complete their application by April 14, 2025 @ 4:00 pm Pacific Time. 

1. Screening

You will be asked to submit your resume and provide thoughtful responses to few scenario-based questions. Your responses to the questions should outline how you demonstrate the About You section. It will also illustrate how you imagine your first year in the role. Responses will be anonymized and randomized prior to screening. We will screen candidate responses based on the alignment with the knowledge, competencies and character required for this position. The intent is to minimize bias in the first assessment stage. Only after these responses have been assessed will we review your resume. 

You can answer the questions on the form provided, or submit your responses on a single document and upload the file. Please note that all responses will be reviewed for AI-generated content.

2. Initial Conversation (30 minutes)

Successful candidates selected move forward in the process and will be contacted to arrange an informal conversation. On this call, you can ask us questions about the school and the role. You will also hear more about our skill-based hiring process.

3. Authentic Belonging Interview (60 minutes)

If successful, you will progress to a final interview where we will discuss the school and how you see yourself as a member of our community.
