An Associate Faculty position is a full-time role and provides coverage as needed for various classes. This specific opening will support the creation and delivery of a range of programs and events in the fields of global education, service learning, experiential education and community engagement, under the direction of the Head of Global Stewardship. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate of a B.Ed. program, who is seeking to gain classroom teaching experience; or for those that have one to three years’ experience.

This position is 0.6 FTE Global Stewardship and 0.4 FTE general Associate Faculty between now and April, transitioning to 1.0 FTE Associate Faculty thereafter, for the remainder of the contract (although possibility for extension until the end of contract).

The Associate Faculty role also supports co-curricular requirements and may be involved with the advisory program. Associate Faculty are placed on the School’s teaching grid for the contract period.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provides both TOC coverage and when necessary longer-term coverage when faculty members are away for a leave of absence.
  • Facilitate student learning individually and in small groups.
  • Work with teachers to create a positive school environment that will emphasize a student-centered, caring atmosphere.
  • Accompany students on field trips and excursions during class time if required.
  • Liaise with teachers to address student social and emotional needs, including those related to break, lunch, health, clothing, and general well-being.
  • Teach experiential education workshops that have been co-created with the Global Stewardship team.
  • Communicate with local organizations and develop opportunities for student workshops and volunteering.
  • Organize and maintain the Global Stewardship team social media communication.
  • Leading the Global Stewardship co-curricular programming during community blocks, lunch, after school and/or some weekends, including supporting the community garden program.
  • Create and maintain the community partnership contact list and develop opportunities for volunteer placements, internships and work experience.
  • Work in conjunction with the GS Team and parent’s association on organizing volunteers for major school events.
  • Be willing to take the Duke of Edinburgh award training process through an online course mentorship.
  • Supervising duties as required, including placement on a duty rotation for lunch.
  • Participating in student activities during non-instructional time. Expected to be involved in extracurricular activities during the school term.

 

Qualifications will include:

  • Teaching certification required.
  • Completion of a B.Ed. program or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Superior reports from practicum experience during attainment of teaching certification.
  • Ability to build strong rapport with students.
  • Team player who will work to foster an open and positive classroom environment.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience teaching is considered an asset.
  • Ability to deal with a number of key stakeholders (i.e. students, teachers, parents).
  • Experience with Duke of Edinburgh award.
  • Experience with experiential learning pedagogy, First Peoples Principles of Learning, social justice education and education for sustainability.
  • Key competencies and EQ in the following areas: self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social expertness, initiative and accountability.
