Position: Bus Driver
Start Date: January 2025
Urban Academy is currently inviting dedicated, team-oriented individuals to apply for our Bus Driver role.
Responsibilities include:
-Drive the 24-passenger activity bus to transport students to and from designated locations for field trips, sporting events, and other school activities.
-Conduct inspections of the vehicle, prior to operation, to check the safety of basic mechanical features, as per departmental policy. Maintains vehicle fluids such as fuel, engine oil, coolant, etc. at the correct level.
-Explain to passengers basic safety items such as safe operation of windows; and the use/location of emergency exits, fire extinguishers and first aid kit.
-Maintain order and adherence to safety rules among students during transport and when boarding and leaving the bus, following school and departmental regulations.
-Sweep the interior of the bus after use and ensure its general tidiness.
Bus washing as directed.
Report any mechanical problems to the supervisor or designate as soon as possible.
-Following departmental guidelines report any incident/accident involving bus or students to the Transportation Supervisor as soon as possible.
-Complete basic records and reports related to inspections, student behaviour, etc.
-Maintain professionalism, ethical behaviour and confidentiality.
-Perform other related duties as may reasonably be expected of a person in this position.
Preferred qualifications, experiences, and dispositions:
-Secondary school graduation.
-Valid B.C. Class 4 driver’s license with a safe driving record; a driver’s abstract to be provided annually.
-Completion of a Criminal Records Check.
-Thorough knowledge of the rules of safe operation and safety precautions to be taken when driving a school bus.
-Sufficient physical strength to lift materials and equipment, ability to carry out safe working practices including the ability to use appropriate lifting and carrying techniques.
-Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers and supervisors.
-Ability to work cooperatively with others.
-Ability to direct students, with authority and diplomacy and follow departmental. procedures, to ensure appropriate and safe behaviour.
-Working knowledge of school operations, policies and procedures.
-Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
-Previous related experience in driving large multi-passenger vehicles would be an asset.
-Previous experience working with groups of children would be an asset.

Compensation:
$24/hr to $27/hour based on experience
Casual work hours between 7:00am – 9:00pm dependent on activity needs
