Position: ADST / STEM Specialist

Position Reports to: Middle and Senior School Principal

Works Closely With: Principal, Middle/Senior School; Director of Student Resource Center

Teams & Committees: Senior School Leadership Team; Junior School Leadership Team

Compensation Salary Range $56,570 – 106,930 based on experience

Position Overview:

Aspengrove School, a JK-12 International Baccalaureate School, is inviting applications from passionate, enthusiastic individuals for the role of ADST / STEM Specialist. Aspengrove is entering its 3rd decade as an independent school and has identified Exceptional Experiences as a pillar of its Next Steps Strategic Plan. This position will support the vision of the school by expanding and establishing ADST and STEM programs that will add vitality, engagement, and belonging to the Aspengrove community. 

The appointed person will work collaboratively with the Principal of the Middle/Senior School and the Director of the Student Resource Centre to define, develop, and lead our ADST / STEM program at Aspengrove, ensuring computer science is at the core of our ADST program. The ADST / STEM specialist will provide curricular and co-curricular opportunities for students to learn and thrive in this important area. 

Roles and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Uphold Professional Standards for BC Educators
  • Planning, delivery, assessment and reporting for courses and programs aligned with approved BC and/or school curriculum as directed by the Principal
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and curricular alignment
  • Communicate proactively and clearly with parents and guardians
  • Accommodate inclusive education needs of students, including behaviour plans and Individual Education Plans
  • Participate in school life programs, including Support Block, Advisory, Outdoor School Days, Career Education, Social-Emotional Learning, etc. 
  • Creating co-curricular opportunities for students 
  • Managing, inventorying and budgeting supplies
  • Other duties as required

Required Knowledge and Skills

The qualities of the successful candidate include:

  • Familiarity with:
    • CAD software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, TinkerCAD) and 3D printing
    • Electronics and robotics (VEX or FIRST Robotics, LEGO SPIKE, Raspberry Pi, Arduino)
    • Media Arts (Adobe, Canva, Procreate, iMovie)
    • Programming (Scratch, Java, Python, C++)
  • Experience, education or training in inquiry-based learning pedagogies and universal design for learning strategies. 
  • Current knowledge and experiences with BC Ministry of Education curriculum, assessment, and reporting expectations. 
  • Superior skills in self-awareness, self-management and self-advocacy
  • Fluent communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Experience and Qualifications

  • Canadian residency and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • A valid BC teaching certificate or Independent School Certification qualifying criteria
  • Experience, education and training in mathematics, ADST-related and STEM or STEAM-related subjects. , including: 
    • Computer Science
    • Robotics
    • Electronics
    • Animation
    • Web Design
  • International Baccalaureate MYP and DP qualifications would be an asset

Criminal Record Check

Must pass and maintain a clear criminal record check for the purposes of working with children
