The Organization

King David High School is a pluralistic, community, and co-educational Jewish high school in the Oakridge district of Vancouver. The school, initially known as Maimonides Secondary School, opened in 1987 with nine students in Grade 8. In 2005, spearheaded by the vision and philanthropy of the Diamond Foundation, King David High School opened the doors to its new facility.

King David is the largest Jewish high school west of Winnipeg. The unique feature of King David High School is its dynamic, integrated – general and Judaic studies – dual curriculum. Throughout its history, King David has developed leaders who now play important roles in supporting both the local and global communities.

The Opportunity

King David High School is seeking an experienced and visionary educational leader to serve as the Deputy Head of School (DHS). King David is looking for a candidate with a proven track record of innovation in education, an unwavering commitment to student-centered learning, and a strategic mindset focused on advancing the mission and vision of the school.

With a new Head of School, a supportive Board, and an engaged and inclusive community, the DHS will play an essential role within the core leadership team whose mandate is to take an excellent school to the next level, continuing to grow enrollment, ensuring fiscal sustainability, maximizing community impact, and creating top-tier learning experiences for students.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Partner with the Head of School to provide visionary leadership in operational efficiency and institutional growth;
  • Academic Oversight: Partner with the Director of Teaching and Learning to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and teaching practices that are innovative, rigorous, and aligned with best practices;
  • Faculty Development: Lead initiatives for recruiting, mentoring, and professional development of faculty and staff, ensuring that the school attracts and retains top-tier talent;
  • Student Well-being and Engagement: Foster a positive, inclusive school culture where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally;
  • Accreditation and Compliance Oversight: Lead and manage the school’s accreditation process, ensuring adherence to CAIS and ISABC standards and Ministry of Education regulations, while preparing for and overseeing inspections and evaluations;

Professional and Personal Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Education or Educational Leadership;
  • Valid BC Teaching Certification (or eligibility) with 10+ years of teaching experience;
  • 7+ years of high school leadership experience within independent or exceptional academic institutions, including senior administrative responsibilities;
  • Utilizing data and research to inform instructional practices, possesses a proven track record of fostering a student-centered learning environment and an outstanding school culture;
  • Experience in strategic planning, risk management, and policy development;
  • Expertise in faculty mentorship and development with a commitment to nurturing a positive, collegial, collaborative, and growth-oriented team;
  • Strong understanding of current and best educational practices, with a focus on innovation and student-centered learning;
