The Position:
This is an exciting opportunity to join our PE Department and coach our Athletic teams. The successful candidate will be an experienced PE teacher who has a love for coaching and teaching and the ability and desire to coach in many different areas, including basketball and at least one of soccer or volleyball. Another secondary teaching discipline is also an asset.
Requirements for the position:
- A passion for coaching and working with adolescents
- Ability to communicate clearly with students and parents in person and by email
- Willingness and skill to use multiple approaches to teaching and supporting diverse learners
- Strong collaborative skills and a desire to work as part of a team
- A gentle disposition that includes respect for difference and an ability to engage with students who may have challenging social-emotional needs or developmental disorders
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances
- Ability to teach with kindness and flexibility to support students in their learning
- A commitment to always improve one’s practice and the learning experience for students
- A positive role model for high school students
- You must value equity, diversity and inclusion as it relates to all people, including aspects of identity, as well as having respect for indigenous traditions and ways of knowing.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:
- A valid BC Teaching Certificate;
- A Secondary PE Specialist or extensive experience as a secondary PE teacher
- Experience coaching basketball, at least one of soccer or volleyball, and other sports;
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, time-management, and communication skills;
- A commitment toward continued professional development and growth;
- An ability to integrate technology for student learning;
- A Class 4 BC Driver’s License is an asset;
- Experience in an independent school is an asset;
- Another secondary teaching discipline is an asset.
