The Position:

The School is seeking a passionate and innovative Junior School Visual Arts Teacher who will inspire young learners and cultivate a love for artistic expression. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and dedicated faculty team, providing engaging and developmentally appropriate art experiences for students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 5. In addition to classroom teaching, this role includes organizing student art displays, integrating art with other subject areas, and contributing to the co-curricular life of the school.

 

Responsibilities include:

Teaching Visual Arts to Junior School students (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5) using a hands-on, inquiry-based approach.
Developing and implementing engaging and age-appropriate art curriculum aligned with the BC Curriculum and Reggio-inspired practices.
Encouraging creativity and self-expression through a variety of artistic mediums.
Organizing student art displays, exhibitions, and community-based art initiatives.
Collaborating with classroom teachers to integrate art into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Maintaining a well-organized and inspiring art studio space.
Providing ongoing formative and summative assessments to guide student learning and development.
Communicating regularly with parents, colleagues, and administrators about student progress and artistic achievements.
Participating in professional development and staying current with best practices in elementary art education.
Contributing to the Junior School’s extracurricular programs and community events.

 

The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferably with a specialization in Visual Arts or Art Education.
Eligible for, or holder of, a current BC teaching certificate.
Experience teaching Visual Arts at the elementary school level.
Knowledge of child development and experience working with young learners.
Experience incorporating a wide variety of artistic techniques and materials.
Familiarity with inquiry-based, Reggio-inspired, and interdisciplinary teaching approaches.
Experience working with clay and using a kiln for ceramic projects.
Evidence of exemplary student artwork and/or class projects in a concise portfolio.
Proficiency with educational technology, including Google Classroom, and other technology to support learning.
A commitment to differentiated instruction to support diverse learning needs.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, sense of humour.

 

Salary:

Annual salary Range: $74,040 – $119,832

 

Criminal Record Check:

Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
