Out of School Care Supervisor and Educational Assistant

Regular Full Time Position beginning March 10, 2025

Aspengrove School is inviting applications from passionate, enthusiastic and experienced Early Childhood Educators for the dual role of K-5 Out-of-School Care (OSC) Supervisor and Educational Assistant (EA) in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Aspengrove School is a place where students and teachers work together to explore the opportunities of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, through their passions as learners and members of a strong community. Our educators believe that at Aspengrove, “They have the freedom to make decisions around creativity and innovation, and they have an influence on the growth of the school.” This position reports to both the Early Learning Centre Director and the Junior School Principal. This position plays a key role in the care and well-being of Aspengrove’s PYP students. The candidate will share the responsibility with the school team to provide a program of care, inquiry, and health and safety in the classrooms, on the campus, and in the OSC setting.

This position is eligible for the School’s Group benefit plan, including extended health and dental, and matching contributions to the School’s Group RRSP Savings plan and tuition discount for enrolled children. 

Schedule of Employment:

School days: Monday to Friday 9:15am-5:15pm 
School closures when OSC is offered: 8:15am-4:45pm. These times may change with notice from the ELC Director

 Qualifications:

A valid ECE Licence to Practice Certificate 
A valid first-aid certificate 
Valid work permit, permanent residence, or Canadian Citizenship

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Warm, caring, supportive attitude towards children
  • Able to perform tasks such as lifting and moving equipment, stooping, bending, sitting and standing for extended periods of time

Preferred experience and qualifications

  • Experience in a school age setting
  • Understanding and experience with different learning needs

OSC Supervisor Responsibilities (School year- M,T,W,Th 2:30-5:15 and F 12:30-5:15)

  • Provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities
  • Establish and carry out a daily schedule that incorporates child-directed activity with predictable care routines and transition times
  • Organize space, equipment, and materials before, during and after activities
  • Assist children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that are open ended and extend conversations
  • Encourage and assist children to gain independence and practice self-help daily
  • Attend team meetings, workshops and in-service training provided by the centre
  • Meet all licensing requirements
  • Plan & execute Winter, Spring & Summer Camp Programming 

EA Responsibilities (School year- M,T,W,Th 9:15-2:30 and F 9:15-12:30)

  • Work closely with the Learning Resource Teachers and PYP teachers to support students in their classes
  • Academic, behavioural and emotional support of students in the Student Resource Centre
  • Facilitate 1:1 and small group academic support to students 
  • Organize materials and resources related to student needs
  • Playground supervision

Criminal Record Check

Must pass and maintain a clear criminal record check for the purposes of working with children

Salary

ECEA – $21.00 per hour.

ECE – $23.25 per hour, plus $6.00 per hour Wage Enhancement.
