Job Summary:
Reporting to the PYP Learning Strategies Coordinator and Head of Personal Counseling, the Education Assistant/Behaviour Interventionist will assist with programming for students with autism or related conditions. Working under the guidance of the Learning Strategies teachers and Personal Counselor, the Education Assistant/Behaviour Interventionist will work with students, families, and classroom teachers to successfully support Individual Behaviour Plans and IEPs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Including but not limited to the following:
- Work with students with autism and other learning needs in an inclusive classroom setting as well as on an individual or small group basis
- Support students in a variety of subject areas with executive functioning (planning, organization, time management and study skills)
- Support Behaviour Plan and IEP recommendations, review strategies and document student progress
- Provide supervision for recess and lunch times as required, with a focus on supporting students’ transitions and behaviour
- Prepare additional resources and materials to support students with autism
- Work with classroom teachers to help them understand the needs of students
- Provide back-up support and monitoring for student(s) with medical condition as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a Canadian resident and legally entitled to work in Canada (Citizen, PR, or valid work permit)
- Must meet all requirements to be certified as an EA or BI in British Columbia
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a school setting
- Hold or be willing to obtain an age appropriate First Aid Certificate
Preferred Experience and Qualities:
- Relevant training and coursework in Special Education and/or Behaviour Intervention
- Knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate programmes, particularly the PYP
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of behaviour theories, behaviour intervention strategies
Compensation
The base annual salary for this position is competitive and falls within the range of $65,000.00 – $70,000.00. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, and relevant experience in accordance with BC labour laws and company policies.
