Salary: $140,000 – $150,000 per annum

As a member of the Senior School Leadership Team, the Vice Principal, Student Life has overall responsibility for several key components of student programming and experiences outside of conventional academic classes. This person oversees and collaborates with the Heads of Grade and develops and maintains the Wings (House) system, the Advisory Program, and other student life initiatives and events to ensure a highly supportive and engaging environment for all students.
The Vice Principal, Student Life serves as a role model and nurtures empathy, compassion, and a sense of belonging for all students.
This individual promotes and embodies the School’s mission, vision and strategic plan, and embodies the School’s Core Values of empathy, integrity, humility, respect, responsibility, and resilience. They will display highly ethical, professional behaviour, serving as a role model to all students.
This individual will have teaching responsibilities equivalent to one block (0.2 FTE) and contribute to the advisory and co-curricular programs. The Heads of Grade (x5) will report directly to the Vice Principal, Student Life.

Work will be performed primarily at St. George’s Senior School (4175 West 29th Avenue, Vancouver), but meetings may be held occasionally at the Junior School (3851 West 29th Avenue, Vancouver).
Responsibilities will include:
- Creating and overseeing programs and initiatives that intentionally embed the School’s core values in each student.
- Developing and implementing research-based programming and initiatives in order to embed leadership and character education across various facets of school life.
- Overseeing the Advisory program. This includes weekly Advisory curriculum, as well as Advisory curriculum on Flex Days or equivalent.
- Leading the Senior School Wings (House) system. This includes the annual Wings Festival, Wings Spirit Days, and all other Wings competitions and events.
- Leading the Senior School co-curricular program and ensure that activities align with the Schools’ strategic vision.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of global and experiential education programs.
- Overseeing Flex Days, Careers Week, and equivalent programming.
- Overseeing the Heads of Grade who manage student attendance records, the Honour Council, and other student focused initiatives.
- Along with the Senior School Principal, routinely collaborating with the student government in developing programming for assemblies and other student initiatives and events.
- Overseeing student-focused special days and events, including the Hamper Drive.
- Continuing with teaching responsibility, equivalent to one block (0.2 FTE) and contributing to the advisory and co-curricular programs.
- Performing additional related duties as required.
Qualifications and skills will include:
- B.Ed. or equivalent combination of 5-7 years of relevant experience in teaching and leadership role in K-12.
- BC Teaching Certificate or Independent School Teaching Certificate.
- Superior EQ skills in self-awareness, self-management, social agility, impact and influence.
- Proven track record of leadership success in a high functioning school environment.
- The ability to identify trends and anticipate developments in our rapidly changing society, and ensure that St. George’s School delivers student life opportunities that enrich the students’ experience and prepare them for the world beyond the classroom.
- Demonstrated track record of being an effective, caring and compassionate classroom teacher, ideally in a secondary (grade 8-12) setting.
- Master’s degree in Leadership Administration or Education is considered an asset.
- A Mental Health First Aid qualification is considered an asset.
- A deep understanding and appreciation of the importance of justice, equity, inclusion and diversity.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in a fast-paced learning environment.
