This session will include brainstorming for meaningful essay topics, best practices for effective essay writing, and case studies using real essay examples.

#4 What is a “Liberal Arts” Education? Simon Nachimento, University of Chicago
A U.S. undergraduate education is based on the concept of “liberal arts and sciences”, with the goal of providing a well-rounded academic education that develops students’ verbal, written and critical thinking skills across different disciplines. But what does a liberal arts curriculum look like, and why should students be interested in taking classes outside their main academic passion? In this session, University of Chicago admissions counselor Simon Nascimento will talk about the reasoning behind a liberal arts education, and how the liberal arts will shape your undergraduate degree program in the United States. You will also learn more about the transformative power of the liberal arts for your academic and professional future – including examples from employers on the many benefits of hiring graduates from strong liberal arts programs.
