It is with great excitement that Aspengrove School announces that it has been authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the IB Diploma programme beginning September 2013!
There are currently 147 schools in Canada who offer the Diploma programme, 26 of them in BC. Aspengrove will be the 9th school in Canada to offer the full continuum of the IB programme: PYP, MYP and DP.
Mrs. Zinda FitzGerald, Head of School wishes to thank the entire school community for helping to make this dream a reality. When the school was first founded in 2003, the vision of the founding group was that Aspengrove School would become an IB World School and from the day the school opened its doors in 2003, planning began to implement the PYP and MYP programmes which were both authorized in 2008. In 2011, planning began for the implementation of the Diploma programme, which has required much determination, financial support, and most important: a dedicated staff member project team. As a community we are fortunate that we had all of the necessary pieces to make it happen. Congratulations must be extended to the teachers who devoted many extra hours to attend training, prepare course outlines and collaborate on paperwork for submission: We would also like to thank all of our staff members who supported the DP group in so many ways. This was indeed a team effort.
Our current grade ten class will be part of the next significant milestone in the history of the school: they will be the first class to graduate from Aspengrove School with an IB Diploma in 2015. Please join me in wishing these students and their teachers all the best as they embark on this very exciting journey!
