Shawnigan Lake School presents "In the Heights"

January 19, 2017

Familiar themes find a new beat as Shawnigan Lake School presents the vibrant new musical,
“In the Heights.”

After a nearly sold-out run of “The Wizard of Oz” one year ago, Shawnigan returns to the McPherson Playhouse Jan. 26-29 for a fresh, contemporary show.

Set in New York’s Washington Heights neighbourhood, “In the Heights” won four Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2008. This positive and uplifting story centres on a predominantly Latin American community facing change.

Created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has risen to popular acclaim since the Broadway sensation “Hamilton: An American Musical,” this modern theatrical experience features lively hip hop dances as well as more conventional numbers.

“It’s neat to have something modern,” says Director Morgan McLeod, who promises a performance that will, “speak for itself.”

Featuring 44-member cast and a live nine-piece orchestra led by renowned Victoria musician Brad L’Écuyer, “In the Heights” will undoubtedly give audiences a musical experience unlike anything they’ve seen before.
