Shawnigan Lake School supporters Jim and Kathryn Shaw have just announced their latest gift to the School: a brand new residence for girls.

The new House will be named “Elizabeth House,” a special gesture by Jim to honour his wife, Kathryn, whose full name is Kathryn Elizabeth Shaw.

This latest gesture follows their recent gifting of the magnificent Jim & Kathryn Shaw Library. As the fifth girls’ residence, Elizabeth House will increase the number of boarding houses to 10 and allow the School to continue proudly on its path to full gender balance in every way.

“Shawnigan Lake School is an exceptional institution that grants kids the opportunity to strive for academic excellence,” Kathryn Shaw said.

“We hope Elizabeth House will contribute to making Shawnigan Lake School the No. 1 co-educational, boarding school in Canada as it continues with its vision to build experiences that help shape better citizens, better leaders and better Canadians,” Jim Shaw said.

Kathryn Shaw is a member of Shawnigan Lake School’s Board of Governors and Chair of the Advancement and Alumni Relations Committee.

Jim Shaw graduated from Shawnigan Lake School in 1977 and served on the Board of Governors for eight years. Jim Shaw is currently Vice Chair and past CEO of Shaw Communications. They reside in Calgary.

Shawnigan Lake School is a recognized leader in its field and has just celebrated its 100th anniversary. It offers a complete education embracing all the strands of mind, body, character and spirit.

“We stand proudly at the dawn of our second century and this wonderful gift enables us to make another huge step on our journey to be perfectly in tune with the equitable society that we all subscribe to,” Headmaster David Robertson said.
