Ezabel Z. and Amelia T. students from Crofton House School won third place in the grade 11 math category of the McMaster University's Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Math@Mac Online Mathematics Competition for high school students.

The competition was initiated in 2006 as a fun and inclusive outreach program by McMaster University and consists of ten questions completed in teams of two within as shortest time frame as possible. Ezabel Z. and Amelia T., grade10 students in the Accelerated Math Program at CHS, teamed up to participate in the grade 11 competition.

Ezabel Z.  said "It was great working as a team. We were surprised to have placed third but are proud of our excellent work”. Amelia T. summarized the experience by adding, “we are very grateful to have had this opportunity to showcase our mathematical skills.”

In total 257 teams and 514 students competed in the grade 11 category. The majority of competing schools, 85 from around the world, are based out of Ontario and a few are from schools in Europe and Africa. Crofton House School was one of two Vancouver based schools that participated in the event.
