Adrienne Gear has been working in the Vancouver school district for over 15 years - as a classroom teacher, ESL teacher, and teacher librarian. Currently, she works as a K-7 Literacy Mentor, supporting Vancouver teachers and students in their literacy programs. DR. JOHN J. MEDINA, a developmental molecular biologist, has a lifelong fascination with how the mind reacts to and organizes information. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller "Brain Rules: 12 Principles for Surviving and Thriving at Work, Home, and School" -- a provocative book that takes on the way our schools and work environments are designed. His latest book is a must-read for parents and early-childhood educators: "Brain Rules for Baby: How to Raise a Smart and Happy Child from Zero to Five."
Medina is an affiliate Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He is also the director of the Brain Center for Applied Learning Research at Seattle Pacific University. Medina lives in Seattle, Washington, with his wife and two boys.

In the Brain Rules seminar, John Medina shares his life long interest in how the brain sciences might influence the way we teach our children and structure our schools. He will describe his "Brain Rules" - what scientists know for sure about how our brains work - and then offer transformative ideas for changing the way we carry out education.
This seminar is for teachers and educational professionals at all levels.

Now professor emeritus at Montclair State University, Barell worked for several years as a consultant to The American Museum of Natural History in New York City helping teachers and students develop their inquisitiveness about the wonders of earth and space.
John Barell's current research involves taking the issues raised in his book Developing More Curious Minds and asking how we can work to develop communities of inquiry at home, in school, in places of work and within our democracy.
John Barell is no stranger to the IBO, having given presentations at the IB Regional Conference in 2010 and at a number of PYP training conferences.

Under the umbrella of the ISABC Collaborative Pro-D programme, Stratford Hall is pleased to host an IB forum at 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 7, to explore opportunities for collaboration between our various schools. We hope that some schools not currently offering IB, but who may be interested in learning more about it, will come as well.
The intent is that ideas brought forth during the evening's discussions will lead to concrete action and future inter-school collaboration around the IB.
