Vancouver Independent Schools Theatre Alliance Play Fest

Vancouver Independent Schools Theatre Alliance Play Fest

Date:
May 25, 2016 to May 27, 2016
Event Location:
St. George's School

To Vancouver independent school drama teachers! Good news for your theatre kids!

Over the last few years many of you have entered one or more plays in our Vancouver Independent Schools Theatre Alliance (V1STA) one act play festival and this coming May 25-27th, 2016 we need your help to make it bigger and better!

Once more we would like to invite you to bring your keen and talented students to St. George’s for this unique ‘zone’ festival. Bring a one-act play (or more!) for performance at the festival slated for the end of May and we would love to add you to the program! Now is a great time to think about setting aside some curriculum time to work on it (last year my grade 12s had a little festival of their own to determine our entry) or put the word out to your drama types to start looking for a piece. Plays must be student-acted, be no longer than 30 minutes and you bring your own set and props etc. We will provide full tech via our own tech students but if you have stagecraft and tech students who run your show we would be happy to teach them how to run the gear.

For V1STA 2016 we welcome back a truly wonderful, gentle, funny, professional and perceptive adjudicator in Craig Holzschuh, artistic director at Theatre Seizieme, who each year helps us create a real multi-school festival atmosphere. There are several categories you can 'win' in:

Best Teacher/Adult directed show
Best Student Directed show
Best acting x 2
Best student director

And this year, after the success of one of the student-written plays last festival, we will be accepting 'YouthWrite' performances for adjudication, so get your classes play-building or inspire your young writers to start creating something special for your actors to work on. Of course, everybody wins (even school year-weary drama teachers), and don't forget the rockin' after-party at the end of the festival!

Let Catriana Van Rijn (Crofton House) or myself know if you would like to participate and we can start a schedule and send you out updates and answer questions. If any of you veterans out there have suggestions to make this event even better, or if you are new to the festival and would like more information, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.
Hope to see you in May!
