This December, Southpointe Academy’s Drama department will be presenting one of Christopher Durang’s finest works, The Marriage of Bette and Boo. The dark-comedy revealing the complex structure of a family surrounded in emotional turmoil and crises is a semi-autobiographical display of Durang’s parents’ marriage. It showcases the playwright’s upbringing and deals with issues of alcoholism, infant mortality, mental health, family dysfunction, religion and ultimately, death.
What one might not expect when examining that particular laundry list of issues is that the play is first and foremost a comedy and that Durang is one of the most heralded and finest comedic playwrights of the past half-century.  Although this play is not one that is traditionally produced at the high school level, the student actors at Southpointe have taken up the challenge with tenacity, skill, and maturity far beyond their years.
Southpointe Academy would like to invite you to attend a performance of The Marriage of Bette and Boo and experience the joy and passion that our students have found in the creation and presentation of live theatre.
