Southridge School is hosting an evening presentation for parents and teachers to hear and learn from an expert, issues and concerns for children in the area of “cyber safety”. Recognizing the difficulty in keeping up with young people in the area of fast moving technological advances, this presentation will highlight the use of “smart” phones, Skype, Facebook, texting, sexting, texting addictions, sending photos via phones, on-line gambling, chat room behavior, child porn and sexual harassment issues.
Rob Nickel will awaken parents and teachers to the dangers that are lurking online. He is recognized in Canadian courts as an expert in online undercover investigations, workings of the internet, relations to criminal offences and the identification of child pornography. For 2 years Rob was the secretary of the Internet Specialists Group, a sub-committee of the Interpol Crimes Against Children Specialists Group.
Rob is the author of “Staying Safe in a Wire World – A Parent’s Guide to Internet Safety” which has been featured on hundreds of radio and television shows including Dr. Phil, CNBC’s the Big Idea, Good Day New York and many others. In 2004 Rob competed in the World Championship of Public Speaking where he was judged as one of the top nine speakers in the world.
