TEACHER ASSISTANT & AFTER SCHOOL CARE SUPERVISION AIDE
Junior School (Gr. 1-7)
Part-Time
From September 8, 2020 to June 23, 2021
 
About this Role
York House School is inviting applications from compassionate, innovative and qualified Education / Teacher Assistants committed to providing an exceptional 21st century learning environment for our girls. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge in instructional and assessment practices, a passion for teaching, and an understanding of how girls learn. Teacher Assistants play a key role for our students by assisting the teacher with instructional programs. Under the direction of the Director of Junior School, the teacher assistant will spend time in a classroom observing, modeling, and completing classroom work with students with diverse learning needs. The Teacher Assistant works only on days when students are in attendance.
 
Qualifications

  • Diploma of Educational Assistant or other equivalent training
  • Prefer two years experience working as a Teacher Assistant
  • Early Childhood Certification or Responsible Adult Training an asset
  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Food Safe Certification
  • 19 years of age or over
  • British Columbia Teachers certification or equivalent, with elementary qualifications is an asset
  • Independent School experience is an asset

After School Care Responsibilities

  • Assist with and coordinate the After School Care Program at the Junior School from 3:00pm to 5:00pm Monday to Friday on days when students are in attendance
  • Provide a safe, welcoming and fun environment for students ranging from grades 1 to 6
  • Prepare and plan for activities daily

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Collaborative and flexible team-player
  • Knowledge of the current research on girls and learning
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time-management and communication skills
  • Able to provide care and mature guidance to children
  • Have relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of British Columbia Curriculum and pedagogy
  • Knowledge of the current research on girls and learning
  • Demonstrated experience as an enthusiastic, innovative, and caring educator. A commitment to diversity and inclusion in all its many dimensions
  • Collaborative and flexible, supportive, and effective team-player
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships with all stakeholders
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to educating the whole student
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology purposefully to transform learning
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and assessment practices to meet the needs of individual learners
  • Experience using an inquiry-based and project-based learning approach
  • Committed to continuous professional growth and improvement
