Senior School PE Teacher
Permanent, full-time, starting September 2019.
We are seeking a Senior School PE teacher, commencing September 2019, to complement a strong Physical and Health Education department that includes a variety of Physical and Health Education courses, Fitness and Conditioning classes as well as coaching opportunities outside of the timetable. Physical fitness is an integral part of the overall SMUS program and so our Physical and Health Education department plays a crucial role in establishing a positive outlook to personal health.
Key Responsibilities
Confidence and ability to work with students in a co-ed environment;
Experience working with athletes in a weight room, and comfortable instructing students on strength training and other areas of fitness development.
Ability and experience working within a team to collaborate on physical and health education and fitness-related initiatives;
Involvement within and outside of the department on curricular and extra-curricular endeavours in a multi-grade setting;
Communicating student learning to parents, attending staff meetings, participating on staff committees and participating in all duties associated with teaching.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Physical and Health Education; Experience as a Physical and Health Education teacher, including a clear understanding of working with a diverse student body;
Experience and familiarity with the redesigned BC Ministry of Education Physical and Health Education curriculum from Grades 9 to 12;
Experience coaching athletic teams at a high level;
Familiarity and success with current best practices in fitness;
Understanding and experience with differentiated instruction in a physical and health education environment;
Proficiency in using modern, progressive physical and health education assessment methods.
