Senior Art Teacher
Fraser Academy is seeking a permanent full-time Senior Art Teacher to join our team in the 2017-18 school year.
Located in Kitsilano, Fraser Academy is a highly effective academic school, specifically for students Grades 1 to 12 who have dyslexia or other related language-based, processing difficulties. With a maximum of ten students per class, the school follows the B.C. Ministry of Education Curriculum. An impressive 90% of Fraser Academy grads go onto post-secondary education. Fraser Academy is an accredited member of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), the Independent Schools Association of British Columbia (ISABC), the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and the Federation of Independent Schools Association (FISA).
Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience and a passion for teaching in the Fine Arts from Grades 7 through 12. This individual will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
The successful applicant should also have:
Have formal training in teaching visual arts
Have demonstrated mastery in painting and drawing
Have experience with printmaking and sculpture
Have experience organizing and curating an art show
Have experience using education technology within their classroom (interactive projectors, Google Apps, iPads)
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching students with learning difficulties.
Teaching groups of up to 10 students with language-based learning disabilities and occasionally, some whom may have attention deficits
Teaching students in a variety of fine art disciplines (drawing, painting, ceramics)
Teaching students visual arts elements, the principles of design, and image development strategies
Preparing students to produce work for display at the school and the annual art show
Formal assessment of student work (report cards)
