We are currently inviting applications for the full-time (1.0 FTE) position of Math Teacher (.80) Curriculum Leader (.20) – Senior School. This position will commence September 2018.
Teaching Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare and deliver the core Math program requirements in assigned grade levels following the BC Ministry of Education curriculum and/or Advanced Placement
• Collaboratively plan within the department to develop and design consistent and well-articulated programs
• Assess and report on student academic progress and effort, drawing attention to areas of achievement and areas requiring further development
• Supervise and manage student deportment, including behaviour and adherence to uniform expectations
• Monitors students’ academic, co-curricular, and personal growth as an advisor
• Attend and participate in core school functions and special events
• Fully participate in the co-curricular programme of the school
• Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook
Curriculum Leader Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the development and implementation of the Math curriculum and effective teaching and assessment strategies
• Review issues related to student evaluation, including formal examinations, in order to ensure consistency within the department, and congruency within the school and with Ministry specifications and the ILO’s
• Develop departmental goals and strategies related to curriculum and instruction, and associated with other school goals/initiatives
• Ensure that curriculum content meets or exceeds Ministry requirements
• Work with faculty at the Junior School toward developing program continuity and curriculum articulation between the two schools
• Assist with the orientation and mentoring of new teachers
• Provide feedback to new teachers regarding their teaching practice
• Contribute to the process of evaluating teachers new to the school by mentoring them and communicating with the Head of the Senior School
• Meet on a regular basis with the Curriculum Leaders team
• Uphold the integrity of the academic program
• Implement recommendations from internal or external school or program evaluations
• Foster a positive, collegial environment within the department
• Facilitate communication with parents on curriculum-specific issues
• Oversee the maintenance and development of course outlines
• Oversee/delegate organizational tasks required within the department
• Oversee the integration of appropriate technologies into the learning and teaching processes
• Be an excellent role model for other teachers
• Work with department members to develop and track the annual departmental budget
• Develops annual departmental goals
• Identify/develop professional development opportunities related to the above
• Work collegially with the other members of the Curriculum Leaders team and the Head of the Senior School to advance the vision, mission, and guiding principles of Southridge

• A Bachelor of Education degree, with undergraduate studies in Math
• Hold a valid BC teaching certificate
• Co-curricular coaching experience is valued
• Must be highly collegial and a collaborative team partner
• Advanced placement experience is an asset
• Strong leadership skills combined with excellent communication and organizational skills
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills
• A high level of initiative, energy, and motivation
• The capacity to lead and function effectively within a busy, high-functioning department and school
• The ability to plan, organize and evaluate programs
• A proactive and innovative approach to solving problems
• Experience teaching at the Senior School level in an independent school environment is an asset
• Effective interpersonal skills to establish connections with students and parents in the role of advisor
• A proven understanding of children developmentally
• Experience teaching in a technology rich environment is an asset
