York House School, located in the heart of Vancouver, is one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. Founded in 1932 by seven progressive and insightful women, York House provides an outstanding education for approximately 650 girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Position Summary We are inviting applications from Learning Strategies Teachers who have experience working closely with a team to provide a variety of support for students, teachers and parents and who are compassionate, creative and committed to an inclusive approach to student success. This individual, along with the members of the Learning Strategies Department, will work closely with teachers to develop and implement strategies for student success. This individual will also ensure that all stakeholders have a good understanding of how best to support students in meeting their learning goals. Along with being a learning strategies teacher, this individual will also be asked to be a Teacher Advisor each day and will have opportunities to be involved in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that enhance students’ experiences at school.
Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Education British Columbia Teachers certification or equivalent
  • Special Education Qualifications and experience Five years teaching experience is an asset
  • Three years experience in the role of a Learning Services/ Resource Teacher in a Senior School
  • Experience teaching students with specific needs, including learning disabilities and giftedness and meeting the diverse behavioural and emotional needs of students
  • Knowledge of computer technology for the classroom Knowledge of BC Special Education policies and guidelines
  • Student-Based Coaching and Co-Teaching experience as asset

  • Demonstrated experience assisting classroom teachers in providing appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of the students
  • Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods
  • Demonstrated experience with the administration and interpretation of standardized, norm-referenced assessment instruments to Level B
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of an IEP in consultation with classroom teachers, parents, students, and community resource personnel
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating sessions on how to help teachers meet students’ diverse needs in the classroom
  • Strong understanding and experience with pedagogical approaches such as differentiation, curriculum based assessment and Understanding by Design
  • Committed to continuous professional growth and improvement
