Junior School Primary Music Teacher
Part-time (0.4 FTE), one-year term from September, 2017 to June, 2018.
The Junior School (Kindergarten to Grade 5) is a dynamic and joyful community of learners who create a culture of excellence, think critically and creatively, and are nurtured through supportive relationships in order to reach each child’s potential. Our teaching practice is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, project and inquiry based learning, brain research and the Virtues Project.
The School is currently seeking a Primary Music teacher to become part of our highly engaged, progressive and professional faculty, who will fully embrace the SMUS vision and mission statements and share our educational philosophy and image of the child.
Two or more years of teaching or assistant teacher experience at the elementary level
Willingness to support the SMUS Mission and the philosophy that drives our School
Professionalism and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must be eligible to teach in British Columbia with a specialization in Music Education
Qualities of a successful candidate:
Dynamic, engaging educator
Experience teaching singing to young learners
Training in Kodaly is an asset
An understanding of and willingness to facilitate and prepare children for schoolwide performances
An understanding of current best practices, differentiation, and a commitment to the needs of all learners
An understanding of collaboration within a dynamic Junior School faculty as well within the Music department
An ability to accompany musicians
A commitment to professional growth and extra-curricular activities within the school
Demonstrated classroom management skills
An understanding of a Reggio-inspired approach would be an asset
Shares the love of music with children
Innovative and flexible
Applicants must be eligible to teach in British Columbia. Applicants are requested to supply a résumé with references, accompanied by a cover letter outlining the candidate’s particular strengths and how the candidate is well-suited to teaching in a rich academic program with a diverse and engaged student body.
