Queen Margaret's School is looking for qualified Residence Staff to oversee the day-to-day care and safety of boarding students at the School on weekends and weekend evenings. There are part-time and on-call positions available.

  • Ensure safety and security of Residence buildings
  • Oversee community-building activities for students, such as snacks, crafts, and other planned events and activities
  • Address student discipline, rule violations, and safety/security concerns as needed or directed
  • Support the daily routine and care of all students to meet the aims of the boarding program curriculum
  • Guide and instruct students in regards to personal care, room care, laundry, security, and other responsibilities of boarding life
  • Oversee or assist Residence staff with study prep, bedtime routines, housekeeping duties, and other related duties to support the success of the daily operation of the boarding program
  • In collaboration with the Student Life Coordinator, support, promote, and assist with field trips, excursions, and on-site activities for students; participate in excursions and activities when required
  • When required and as directed, give specific focused attention on areas such as: individual student care, social/emotional growth, and overall wellness
  • Act as a chaperone for off-campus activities, as assigned by Residence Manager
  • Keep the Residence Manager fully informed of any issues relating to students or other matters in boarding
  • Light housekeeping duties as required
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, professional development days, scheduled Residence functions, and other mandatory school staff meetings as designated within the school calendar year

  • Critical thinking/problem-solving skills (independent and team-based)
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality of information and ensure that own behaviour and others is consistent with this standard
  • Understanding of appropriate boundaries
  • Computer literacy, with experience using Office 365 software

Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Diploma in Education, Child & Youth Care, Leadership, or other combination of certification and experience
  • Experience working with adolescent girls is an asset
  • Proficiency in a Second Language is an asset
  • Level 1 First Aid training or better
  • Class 4 Driver's License and clean driver's abstract

Working Conditions

  • Late afternoon/evening shifts on weekends
  • Availability for on-call coverage as required
  • Travel may be requested (for chaperoning duties)
  • Vacation time may only be scheduled during School Breaks (Spring Break & Christmas)
  • Meals are included as a taxable benefit
  • Light housekeeping duties are required
  • Some heavy lifting (up to 20 lbs) may be required
