Permanent, full-time position
St. Michaels University School is seeking a full-time experienced, dynamic fundraiser to ensure we continue to meet and exceed fundraising goals. The SMUS fundraising team is comprised of the Director of Annual Fund and Major Gifts, the Senior Fundraiser, the Alumni office, the marketing department and support staff. The team is responsible for an extensive fundraising operation that includes the Annual Fund as well as gift initiatives for endowment and capital projects. The SMUS Annual Fund is a crucial foundation to SMUS and is one of the most successful programs among Canadian independent schools, raising over $1.4 million per year. Endowment and capital projects remain critical components of the success of this department. Success in these programs will result from strong relationships with the fundraising team and a broad range of constituencies that include current and past parents, staff, alumni and friends of the School. The position reports to the Director of Annual Fund and Major Gifts and through her to the Director of Admissions and Engagement.
Outline of the Role
The Senior Fundraiser will provide dynamic leadership to all aspects of the SMUS fundraising program. The department has ambitious annual targets, as well as many new initiatives for the coming years. The Annual Fund is a key element in an extensive and comprehensive fundraising program, and raises money for program enrichment, endowment and capital projects. The School's Strategic Plan sets out ambitious fundraising goals to achieve the SMUS Vision.
Critical Competencies
Significant fundraising experience and success
Familiarity with a personalized Annual Fund process (rather than a direct mail campaign)
Understanding of the role of Mission and Vision in fundraising efforts
Ability to forge and sustain relationships with potential donors

Outstanding interpersonal communications skills
Excellent writing skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Positive energy and flexibility
Performs well in a deadline-driven environment
Honed research and database skills
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a university degree
Experience working within an independent school environment
Experience working in an organization with varied constituencies, as reflected in the SMUS communities of alumni, past parents, students, staff and friends of the School
A proven fundraising record
A CFRE designation
