Director, Junior School
St. Michaels University School is currently seeking a Director of the Junior School, who will fully embrace the SMUS vision and mission statements and provide the School with outstanding leadership, co-ordination and communication. The newly renovated Junior School is located in Oak Bay, about fifteen minutes away from the Richmond campus that houses the Middle and Senior Schools. The Junior School has 213 students and 35 faculty.
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of the Junior School is responsible for the academic, operational and administrative leadership of the Junior School as well as the curriculum and faculty leadership. A progressive educator and leader, the Director will ensure an enriching, caring and supportive experience for students and faculty, promoting academic excellence and innovation, and the well-being of students and faculty. The Director works collaboratively with the entire SMUS Senior Leadership Team, and with the Admissions Department to bring mission-appropriate students into the School.
The new Director of the Junior School will have a Master’s in Education and a minimum of five years of senior leadership experience in an educational setting – teaching experience in an independent junior school would be an asset. With excellent knowledge of the BC curriculum and the latest trends in educational research and pedagogy, as well as a passion and commitment to education, the Director will possess demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire, mentor and lead a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
